2001 Past Massachusetts Bicycle Meetings

Seven Hills Wheelmen presents: "Take It from a Pro"
Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, 7:30 pm, Unitarian Universalist Church 90 Holden St., Worcester
Professional bicycle racer John Lieswyn, formerly of Team Shaklee and now with the 7 UP/Colorado Cyclist team, will share tales from the pro peloton, including inside views about training and nutrition, life on the road, and even some of the scandals that have shaken up the sport.
Lieswyn, 32, placed second in the national time trial championship last summer and finished the 2000 road season ranked No. 3 among pro men on the national circuit. The top two were Mercury riders Gord Fraser, from Canada, and Henk Vogels, from Australia, so Lieswyn is the top-ranked American in the U.S. Cycling Federation's National Racing Calendar.
More about Lieswyn is at http://www.usacycling.org/?upload/lieswyn.html and http://www.team.shaklee.com/2000/riders/lieswyn.html.
Don't miss this opportunity to hear about a fascinating side of the cycling world. As always, admission is free to our monthly meeting, and refreshments will be served. There will be a door prize, too.

Car-Free Day 2001 First Planning Meeting
Tuesday, July 24, 2001, 7:00 pm at Broadway Bicycle School, 351 Broadway St., Cambridge
Car-Free Day 2000 was a huge success! Come join last year's organizers to make this 2nd annual event even bigger and better! International Car-Free Day will occur on or around September 21st, so it's time to start the planning.
Last year's event involved banners, leaflets, food, giant puppets, pedestrians and close to 300 cyclists in a rolling demo to protest the infamous "Route 9 Crossing," where the once-continuous Emerald Necklace bike and pedestrian path is bisected by Route 9 (on the Brookline/Boston border), leaving no reasonable crossing.
We need to make new plans for this year, so bring your ideas and energy to make this a fun and effective event to fight against the dominance of car-culture and for healthier alternatives!
