    MassBike/Worcester Meeting
    Wednesday, January 20, 7:00 pm in the Banx Room of the Worcester Public Library, Salem Street, Worcester.
    Directions: Exit 13, Kelly Square off Route 290, follow Vernon Street (Route 122) down the hill 100 yds to Kelly Square and bear right on Green Street. Travel ~0.5 miles to traffic light, continue straight on Franklin St. to traffic light. Turn left on Salem Street and proceed to municipal parking lot.

    The featured speaker will be Ann Johnson of the City of Worcester's Office of Planning and Community Development. She will speak about the status of Worcester's efforts towards cycling accomodations, future plans, and ways for MassBike to comment and offer guidance on cyclists' needs.

    This is our first formal meeting with city officials and will set the stage for establishing a constructive relationship. Thus, we would like to have a good showing of cyclists to demonstrate our commitment to improved accomodations.

    All meetings begin at 8:30 A.M. and will last approximately 2 hours

    Purpose of the meetings:
    A series of educational meetings to explain the steps a community should take in getting a transportation project from concept to completion. Information will include:
  • Pre-construction issues concerning planning, design, local funding, environmental concerns needed before a project can be placed on the TIP
  • Steps involved in programming a project into the Boston region's Transportation Improvement Program (TIP)
  • Taking a project from the TIP to construction and completion
  • An overview of state and federal transportation funding for the next several years, including state bond 6ills and TEA-21

    Who should attend?
  • Local officials involved in the planning and design of community highway and transit projects
  • Representatives of planning councils, planning boards and environmental organizations
  • Interested citizens

Turn right into the parking area behind Town Hall and keep going, taking turns and jogs as appropriate to get you into the parking lot behind the library. The room is on the lower (entrance) level, on the left just beyond the children's section.

    MassBike Advocacy/Education Committee Meeting

    Wednesday, June 23, 1999 at 5:30 p.m. at the offices of Goldstein & Manello, P.C. on the 20th floor at 265 Franklin Street, Boston.
    The purpose of the meeting is to further organize our advocacy initatives; to generate a complete list of our onging projects, and then assign responsibility for specific projects to specific committee members. Also, to establish an e-mail address list for all concerned and to start to develop guidelines for the undertaking of new projects or initiatives in the name of MassBike.
    All cyclists interested in advocating for safer roads, more trails and other measures to make bikes belong are welcome.

  • Catherine Ratte of the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission will visit us to introduce herself and present a suggestion for making a PV-wide grassroots network of Rail Trail supporters, to advocate for funding for all the planned, and oftentimes even approved, trails that still haven't been built (or even designed in most cases...) (See note below on the UMass Rail Trail Connector status. Catherine's last position was as Bicycle Safety Coordinator for the State of Wisconsin; since her arrival at PVPC she has already secured a major Transportation Demand Management grant to support next May's Bike Week 2000 in the Valley.
  • UMass Rail Trail Connector: in jeopardy. Come pick up material and info to help prevent a funding fiasco.
