Rail Trail Planning in New England: Do's and Don'ts
Thursday, November 9, 7:00 pm, Main Meeting Room, Natick Morse Institute Library (north side of Rte. 135, one block east of Route 27)
A slide presentation by Craig Della Penna (New England Representative of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy)-
Co-sponsored by: Natick Morse Institute Library, Natick Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, Framingham Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, and Cochituate State Park Advisory Committee
Craig P. Della Penna is an expert on railroad operations, a railroad historian, and an expert on the recreational trails of New England. His excellent "Great Rail-Trails of" guide books and slide presentations take you to many successful conversions of abandoned rail lines into wonderful, multi-purpose recreational trails. Some of these trails provide unique and important routes for alternative transportation solutions, as well. Craig's good and bad examples of earlier rail trails can help us to create new ones that work better. His bureaucratic and planning lessons have equal importance.
Brief status reports will be given on several local trail initiatives, and there will be opportunity for discussion.
This evening is open to all people interested in good trails for recreation and transportation. Those helping to create the Cochituate Rail Trail in Natick and Framingham (and the new Snake Brook Trail branching into Wayland) are particularly encouraged to attend.
