Mass. Ave. from Porter Square to the Arlington line is being reconstructed because of major sewer work that will begin next year. There is also some additional funding to enhance the corridor with streetscape improvements.
This is a critical public meeting - Please come if you can
The schedule for the design is set by court-ordered dates related to the sewer work, so there will NOT be much opportunity for additional input on the basic structure of the right of way.
Please encourage others you know who are interested, especially those who live in North Cambridge.
If you would like to indicate your support for the basic design (bike lanes, enhanced ped crossings, slower traffic, etc.) and you can't make the meeting, you can send your comments as below. Since the meeting is very close, it is advisable to fax your comments if you can to:

Brookline Biycle Advisory Committee Meets Barney Frank
Thursday, October 16, 1997, 6:30 pm, Trustee Room of the Main Brookline Library, 351 Washington Street
The Brookline Bicycle Advisory Committee is hosting U. S. Rep. Barney Frank on the issue of ISTEA renewal. This is an opportunity to obtain current information about the several ISTEA renewal bills and to present Congressman Frank with questions that demonstrate our support for ISTEA, as his constitutents.
Barney Frank, despite his strong liberal credentials has not been out front on bicycle issues and it is important that he understand how important ISTEA has been and how important renewal of ISTEA funding is. Thus not only is a good turnout importan: those who turn out need to ask strong questions that demonstrate the value of ISTEA and obtain Congressman Frank's support for ISTEA renewal.
