BNAN Bike Ride To Jamaica Plain and Roslindale Urban Wilds

In this ride, we will visit as many urban wilds in the Jamaica Plain and Roslindale neighborhoods of Boston as we can, starting in the Nira Rock Urban Wild in Jamaica Plain.

This ride is sponsored by the the Boston Natural Areas Network and its Urban Wilds Council, which is working to build awareness of non-park open spaces in the city of Boston.

  • Where: Meet at Nira Rock, on Nira Ave. off Day St. in Jamaica Plain.
  • When: Departing at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 14, 2012
  • Distance: about 8 miles.
  • Pace: Relaxed, probably 6-10 MPH.
  • Terrain: Mostly flat with a few hills.
  • Route: Mixture of on-road (75%), gravel road (5%), and shared-use path (20%).

Getting There

Bicycle

From South Huntington Ave., turn east on Bynner St. (past Angell Memorial) and left on Day St. to Nira Ave.

MBTA

You can take your bike on the Orange Line to the Stony Brook station and bike inbound (right)on the bike path to Mozart St. and follow the end of the cue sheet to Nira Rock Details are on the MBTA website.

Bailout points

You can turn back toward the flat part of Jamaica Plain any time until we climb Moss Hill. After that, it's just easier to follow the ride route.
